US President Donald Trump said he thinks the US–Iran ceasefire is ‘over’ after both countries exchanged attacks, raising the prospect of an end to peace negotiations.
Speaking on Wednesday in Ankara, Turkey alongside Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte at the military alliance’s annual summit, he said: ‘As far as I’m concerned it’s just a waste of time.’ He also said of the Iranian leadership: ‘I don’t want to deal with them anymore, they’re scum… they’re sick people, they’re led by sick people.’ He added that negotiators on both sides could continue to talk, but ‘I think they’re wasting their time’.
