Speaking at a press briefing in Dhaka, Mahmudur Rahman said the July revolution had not failed, adding that revolutions do not end in a single day. He described the movement as a continuous process and said the sacrifices of the July martyrs could not be forgotten.
Rahman identified the first mistake of the revolutionaries as the decision by a few to join the government, arguing that the philosophy and narrative of the July revolution should have been developed from outside power. He characterised the July uprising as a unique, unarmed, homegrown and leaderless revolution, noting that no foreign power played any role in it.
He said the revolution remained ongoing and urged July activists and martyr families to unite under one umbrella. According to Rahman, the movement’s three defining features — its non‑violent nature, domestic character and collective leadership — ensure that the July revolution cannot be defeated.
